"A Campaign Begins Today" by Mitt Romney

"America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation — rather than bringing us together, ushering in a new kind of politics, and rising above raw partisanship, he has succumbed to the lowest denominator of incumbent power: justifying the means by extolling the ends. He promised better; we deserved better.

He calls his accomplishment “historic” — in this he is correct, although not for the reason he intends. Rather, it is an historic usurpation of the legislative process — he unleashed the nuclear option, enlisted not a single Republican vote in either chamber, bribed reluctant members of his own party, paid-off his union backers, scapegoated insurers, and justified his act with patently fraudulent accounting. What Barack Obama has ushered into the American political landscape is not good for our country; in the words of an ancient maxim, “what starts twisted, ends twisted.”

His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today."

— Mitt Romney is the former governor of Massachusetts and author of No Apology.

I don't know everything. I do not have all the answers.

Yet, I know the health care bill passed yesterday was unconstitutional.

No, Mrs. Pelosi health care is not a right. It is a privilege.

We were born with certain rights like liberty, not free health insurance, not a free house nor any kind of hand-out. When we honor our God-given inalienable rights, great privileges still may or may not occur. The pursuit of happiness...is a pursuit--not a handout. With liberty, life still is hard at times (imagine that?) and with liberty life can bring great rewards. Liberty allows each one of us to learn. Real learning- through failure and through success...which produce privileges...like a car, a comfortable retirement, health care, a decent safe home or whatever it is you feel is important to have...to some it means to travel or to own a 52 inch flat screen...we choose- health care is a choice.

Ok liberals, side note, but honestly, do you all really like Nancy Pelosi or do just some of you like her? Doesn't she give you the hibi-jibies whenever she talks? She is one disturbing eerie leery lady. She is not a feel good person.

Today on CNN the reporter was reading viewer emails regarding the newly passed health care bill. One viewer wrote in, "I am so happy this bill passed because I am poor and now the rich can pay for my health care."

This is a mess. The founding fathers are ROLLING over in their graves. They are up in heaven just disgusted right now--covering their eyes.

Hold on everybody...get prepared. The ride has only just begun. Listen to the counsel of the prophets and get out of debt, get your food storage, gather your family close, and stay close to the promptings of the Spirit- and as we try to cling to this foundation of principled living hopefully our children or our children's children will know how to handle the financial crisis the government of today has caused...

oh and please vote out all the crazies this November.

love it! well... don't love the Health Reform Bill.... but it's so true what Mitt said. Jimmy just told me that Ben Franklin said this:

On Sept. 18, 1787, after Benjamin Franklin signed the Constitution in Philadelphia, a woman reportedly asked him: "Well, doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" To which Franklin replied: "A republic, if you can keep it." And regarding maintaining that republic, Franklin is reported at another time to have said, "when the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

So yesterday was part of ending the republic. Sad.

Thanks for bringing back the ffff. I agree with everything you said. Thanks for sharing the quote by Mitt Romney. It was a historic day - one that I will stand up and fight against.

I am getting prepared. I have started with getting my home in order. It is a slow process, especially when I have let things slide. I look forward to being totally in order everything physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I am taking steps in all of those areas and have seen tremendous blessings, especially with my temple attendance. I have faith that I will continue to see miracles and receive answers to my prayers.

I have to add a link to my blog - so others can ready this post.

Thanks April!

Just plain sickening. Like you say, all we can do is follow the Prophet, gather our families close, and follow the promptings of the Spirit. We will be watched over and blessed.

16 And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; and ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish.
17 Perhaps thou shalt asay: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food, nor impart unto him of my substance that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just—
18 But I say unto you, O man, whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent; and except he repenteth of that which he hath done he perisheth forever, and hath no interest in the kingdom of God.
19 For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?
20 And behold, even at this time, ye have been calling on his name, and begging for a remission of your sins. And has he suffered that ye have begged in vain? Nay; he has poured out his Spirit upon you, and has caused that your hearts should be filled with joy, and has caused that your mouths should be stopped that ye could not find utterance, so exceedingly great was your joy.
21 And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another.
22 And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life belongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.
23 I say unto you, wo be unto that man, for his substance shall perish with him; and now, I say these things unto those who are rich as pertaining to the things of this world.
24 And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give.

17 Think of your brethren like unto yourselves, and be familiar with all and free with your substance, that they may be rich like unto you.
18 But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God.
19 And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted.

To anonymous - we give of ourselves to those who have needs through giving a generous fast offering (we have been asked to double it), through visiting teaching, through magnifying our church callings, through volunteering our time at the cannery, serving in the temple often, having the missionaries in our homes for dinner and to teach others, by bringing meals to those who stand in need for many reasons, ...the list can go on and on. There are many ways in which we impart of our substance one to another as King Benjamin speaks both spiritually and temporally. We give because we want to give and follow Christ's example not because we are mandated by the government.

Thank you Anonymous! King Benjamin's sermon is one of my most favorite scripture. A great reminder to serve those around us.

King Benjamin is a prime example of a good and decent government leader. Good thing he said, "that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." AND NOT "I will tax you and force you to serve your fellow beings...because serving your fellow beings is the right thing to do." Can you imagine? Now that would sure contradict Heavenly Father's plan wouldn't it? Agency out the door.

When people use King Benjamin's sermon as a defense for their political views against conservatism, it really confuses me. This wasn't the first time someone has tried to use this to prove that conservatives are "sinning" for not "wanting to give to the poor". So not true...even a little hurtful to be honest.

By CHOICE, we have done a lot to serve the less fortunate. In many cases, we still are the less fortunate...still scraping by it seems...but when the first presidency asked members to donate to Haiti, we did right away. We pay a generous fast offering, we donate to the bishop's store house...I have volunteered at the cannery for church's welfare program. I have given clothes to families who need them. We have helped families at Christmas time, food drives…we are always trying-

Chay and I have been on the receiving end too...many times and we are so grateful for people's service. When I was going through major MS testing, the bills were outrageous. We received several anonymous checks in the mail. It was so heart warming...and in return we have tried to pay it forward as much as we can.

The government should not force charity. Charity should never be a law. Is it even charity when a percentage is automatically deducted to pay for some government program, like healthcare? Kind of takes away our opportunity to stretch ourselves and serve on our own. I just hope you don’t think conservatives are selfish ignorant cold hearted money hoarders – we just have a different vision of serving and honestly feel it's a disservice to people to keep them depending on government. Programs like welfare, which were designed to “help the poor” have actually ruined whole societies- locking people in a world of dependency. Maybe if the welfare system operated more like the church’s system the outcome would be different…

I really don't feel the healthcare bill passed last Sunday will help the poor in the end, it will only generate more money problems- the taxation, the debt, the intrusion to the free markets will actually end up being a disservice to everyone...not just those who didn't have health insurance. So yes, conservatives want to cloth the naked and succor to those who stand in need of succor- we just do it differently. We feel it's a disservice to fellow men to tax the rich, to have excessive debt- all which prohibits opportunity to serve because money is limited- resources limited...which DOES not help the poor.

Health care has its problems...I think it's the costs that put insurance companies in a bind- but I feel the bill passed was just a step to robbing liberty to the individual.

The greatest service I can provide to the poor, the begger, the less fortunate, my neighbor, my family is to fight for their liberty.

so please don't use King Benjamin's sermon to judge me...we just understand service differently.
