ffff

fight for freedom friday once again-

ok so I was looking for some powerful quotes from our founding fathers to share today- and I couldn't find one more profound than this one by Benjamin Franklin:

"She laughs at everything you say. Why? Because she has fine teeth."
~Benjamin Franklin

they must have had horrible teeth back then

ok so seriously

I bought a book yesterday that I think all should own. It isn't very long at all- more like a pamphlet- but it was $8.00! goodness

anyway here is what the book looks like- I bought it a Seagull Book-

The book is called, "The Constitution, A Heavenly Banner" by Ezra Taft Benson- President Benson wrote this book while he was serving as the Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The book was published in 1987.

ok...this book is beautifully written. You can sense the author's love and concern for the country. President Benson illustrates how the country was founded upon God's principles and that the Constitution was "made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other" (words of John Adams,2nd president of United States).

there is a lot of good stuff in the book...really puts things into perspective...and it confuses me how naive and uneducated people have become about the constitution...or even worse- how people don't even care what the founding fathers had to say.

ok so a favorite passage from the book: "...in the final analysis, people generally get the kind of government they deserve. To live a higher law means we will not seek to receive what we have not earned by our own labor. (bailouts anyone? redistribution of wealth?) It means we will keep the laws of the land (Senator Blagojevich?). It means we will look to God as our Lawgiver and the Source of our liberty. (abortion, same sex marriage, consequential punishment, moral agency?)" ~Ezra Taft Benson

Ok I added the stuff in parenthesis obviously. This was written 22 years ago. Benson didn't know Blagojevich at the time, $700+ billion bailouts to companies was unheard of, and the idea of taking money from the rich to help enable the poor was completely agreed to be called socialism...or was found in a nice story called Robin Hood.

I have this exact booklet April! I can't believe it costs eight dollars...what a rip off.

Anyway it REALLY is good, isn't it? I like to re-read it every now and then. I got it at Ricks in a class for something, and it was one of the things I held onto..becuase you don't ever want to get rid of it.

April,

I don't know if you got my email about not being able to come to Utah after all. I so wanted to spend some time with you but the kids got sick and we were not able to come. I hope you felt comfort with this being the first Christmas without your mom. We have had several friends loose parents over this Christmas break to strokes and heart attacks and it must be SO hard. I think of you often and miss you.
